top f150 lightning accessories

Did you know Ford has been making truck for over 100 years? Yep, they have been in business since 1917 when they introduced their first truck, Ford Model TT.

Fast-forward to today and you have an electric truck that has 20X more horsepower and almost 10X the amount of torque.

Ford F-150 Lightning accessories are slowly trickling in the 3rd quarter of 2022 with more and more modified (sometimes tastefully) trucks on YouTube and online forums.

As of this writing as we come towards the end of 2022, here’s a complete list of Ford F-150 Lightning mods and accessories you should consider.

Here's the 10 F-150 Lightning Accessories to Consider

F-150 Lightning Bed Cover

The beauty of the F-150 lighting is this truck is based on the regular F-150 pickup truck. at least 90% of internal and external accessories should fit the Lightning model with no problem.

At around 5.5 feet long for the Lightning bed, this is the standard length in the Ford F-150. A bed cover is one of the most popular modifications made on the standard F-150, thus it is equally important to have one for the F-150 Lightning.

LED Ditch Lights

Anyone who is serious about going off road should strongly consider LED ditch lights. These lights can easily be installed on any part of the truck, in fact you can light up the entire 360 degrees of the vehicle when mounted appropriately.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the higher trim levels of this electric truck can have 360 degree vehicle lightning installed from the factory. This installation looks smoother and more uniform with the truck. However if you want MORE or you have the base model truck and some flare is in order, strongly consider this.

12V Lithium Ion Battery

Replacing your F-150 Lightnings battery can be an easy upgrade that allows you to experience a few different things (some noticeable and some not). With lead acid batteries only holding up to 3 years or so, they weigh upwards of 50 pounds and you can usually discharge them down to 50% before needing for a recharge, there’s a lot of disadvantages.

Lithium ion batteries may cost considerably more, but they save you in a few different ways. First of all, you can discharge lithium ion batteries as low as 80%, they can last 3+ years easily, they often weight 1/4 to 1/5 of what lead acid batteries do.

Overall, these batteries can often last as long as your pickup truck can.

Camping Tent

As electric vehicles become more popular for camping due to their onboard power supply, the F-150 Lightning is no exception. If you can install a bed rack, you can set-up a camping tent that allows you to camp out in the middle of the woods.

Camping tents for various types of automobiles are very popular in the off-roader arena. While they may be on the pricey side of things (considering they are made specifically for mounting on the F-150), you should be able to get a few good uses out of the tent in your camping endeavors.

Sport Bar

A few decades ago, a sport bar was a common apperance on a pickup truck. Today, they are often scene only on luxurious or more premium versions of trucks.

Styling is usually just for visuals, however there are many who have LED lights mounted on top to increase visibility in dark situations.

Installing a sport bar is rather easy, one could probably assume it is as easy on the Lightning as it is on the regular F-150 variant.

Bed Rack

Much like a roof rack or a ladder rack, a bed rack gives the truck more points of contact to secure any given item. A bed rack is one of the items you can use to secure a camping tent.

Bed racks have been increasing in popularity in the last decade. If you own an F-150 Lightning and plan on going off-road or using the truck for work, a bed rack can give you the security you need to ensure things stay in place.

A nice bed rack can cost upwards of 1,500. On average, expect to pay anywhere between 900 and 1200 dollars for a bed rack for an F-150 Lightning.

Touch Screen Cover

Like with any new vehicle that features a touch screen 10″ inches or larger, a touch screen cover is an essential add-on for vehicle owners that want to keep the screen in pristine condition.

Grease, dirt and scratches damage LCD touch screens, making them lag and look dirty no matter how much you clean them.

Online, there’s a few for sale between 20 and 30 dollars. If you do any kind of dirty work, this is especially important for you.

Bed Slide Truck Bed

Attention work truck owners. If you use your Ford truck for work and tools come along, you absolutely need a cargo slide for the bed of your Lightning. Instead of needing to crawl inside and pull things out, one by one, you can pull one long sliding plate where all your desired items will be at your finger tips.

The one downside with having this installed is that you cannot place anything excessively heavy on top. Things like dirt and gravel can get stuck underneath the slide, get stuck in the rails and ultimately make things not as smooth.

Combining this F-150 Lighting accessory with the bed cover can make this a match made in heaven.

Ford Pass App

Some might say this is not an accessory, but I disagree. Ford has come a long way to ensure the usability of the Ford Pass App is improved. The best things about the Ford Pass App is your ability to see your vehicles range in miles and percentage, find charging stations near you, turn ON/OFF and both LOCK and UNLOCK the vehicle, remotely.

Since Ford is trying to complete with the likes of On-Star and Hyundai/Kia BlueLink programs, they now offer the most convenient features, completely free of charge. No subscriptions necessary.

Ford F-150 Lighting Towing Hitch

It won’t be a truck without doing some kind of towing. The F-150 is touted for being able to tow up to 10,000 pounds. In the event the truck does not come with a towing hitch, install one for yourself.

The most recommended brand is CURT and their F-150 dedicated hitch should cost no more than $300 all-in.  This truck is rated to be one of the best electric trucks you can buy for not just personal use, but to haul things around in both bed and trailer.

Dedicated Level 2 (220V) Charger

F150 Lightning Charging

Being a hefty electric truck with a battery pack nearly 140kWh in size, charging is one hurdle that needs to be dominated. At the basic level, if charging on 110volts at maximum amperage, it could take 3 to 4 days of non-stop charging to reach 100% (from 0). However, if you decide to upgrade to at least a 32A charger, you can cut that time down by 7X. Charging time on a 220V charger can be done in 11 to 12 hours.

No matter where you go, you tap into someone else’s outlet, or better yet… you’ll be able to charge someone else to with the available on-board power.

Did I miss any accessories or mods?

This may not be as exiting as seeing accessories for the Mach-E, but with the vast availability of things you can buy for the gasoline and hybrid variants, you can most likely do the same thing for the Lightning as well.
