When it comes to the world of aftermarket accessories for cars, there seems to be an endless supply of options. If you own an electric vehicle, the options wither to next to nothing. The few options we at AvtoWow currently get, can set your car apart quite significantly. What I want to cover in this article are the TOP Chevy Bolt accessories.
While some things here may seem a little overpriced, I hope this motivates some to go out and give Bolt owners a bigger variety, as well as more affordability. Let’s get started!
Table of Contents:
Top 10 Chevy Bolt Accessories
#1 SCREEN PROTECTOR for Infotainment System
#2 CARGO NET to Keep Things from Bouncing
If your Bolt did not come with a cargo net, consider getting one. While it may be a simple accessory, it can serve a great purpose if the hatch can’t close by you need something to keep the things in the trunk from moving around. This accessory is one of those “set it, and forget it” kind of things. Installation is as simple as one, two, three.
#3 LICENSE PLATE HOLDER using Tow Hook Threads
If you live in a state (or country) where you are required to have a front license plate, consider getting a license plate bracket that is attached directly where the tow hook would go.
If your front bumper has not been tampered with but you are thinking of drilling holes to install the license plate bracket, STOP… use the pre-existing hole that is already made for you to mount your license plate. It may raise your vehicle’s resale value a tiny bit, as well as appreciation for those who may buy your Bolt from states where there is no front plate requirements.
#4 WINDSCREEN SUNSHADE for Interior Protection
This goes without saying, if you want to preserve your vehicle’s interior, get a sunshade. Not only will your Bolt EV stay cooler in the summer, it will also preserve the interior from getting damaged by the sun’s rays.
#5 WEATHERPROOF MATS for a Clean Carpet
You can do your best to keep your vehicle clean, but the moment it gets wet, dusty, snowy, muddy, or anything else other than completely dry, the carpet and your factory floor mats will get dirty and cleaning them will get harder and harder. You can go the cheapest route, and get universal-fit mats, but why do that when for a little more, you can get have exact fit floor mats for your Chevy Bolt.
#6 KEY FOB CASE to Keep Your Keys Protected
Your Chevy Bolt comes with decent wireless key fobs. If you want to avoid damaging them in the long run, consider getting a key fob case. These rubber cases will make it look like your keys are brand new. When you hand them to the next buyer of the car, well taken care of keys put on a good impression that they are getting a vehicle that was probably taken care of.
#7 RAIN GUARDS for moisture-free ventilation
Imagine it’s a hot summer day and then it begins to rain. You want to crack open the window but then the rain would start seeping in. The solution to that is to install rain guards on all windows. Not only will you be protected from the rain but can even use them during a blistering hot summer day. To let some steam out of your Bolt EV’s cabin, crack open all windows just enough to start the cooling-off process.
You’d even be protected even if it started to rain. We all know hot summer days can be unpredictable (e.g. Florida).
#8 COILVERS for Stance and Handling
Coilover springs are not only for gas and diesel powered cars. In fact, there’s a few options for Bolt EV owners. Lowering your Bolt EV a little can make it look more sleek and handle better.
Right now in 2021 (first quarter), the Bolt EV has few companies making upgradable modification parts. One of those companies is BC-Racing. This kit will set you back almost a thousand bucks, but if you want to stand out… its the price to pay.
#9 RIMS for Quicker Acceleration and Longer Range
The Bolt EV community is actively looking for a way to improve the range of the Bolt EV. One of the ways they have managed to do that is with replacing the old wheels with ones from a Chevy Cruze Eco. All four wheels weighed 24 pounds less than OEM ones.
If you look at used market places (Facebook, Craigslist, eBay etc), you can find each rim for around $100 or even less.
#10 OBD2 APP for Tracking Vehicle Health
With electric cars, instead of tracking engine RPM’s, you can see an accurate reading of your batteries state of health, temperature, if there are any codes coming up, and much more. The Bolt EV does not have any specific apps for it, with the exception of the MyChevrolet App (which is questionable at best).
One reliable app you can count on to get accurate specs is called Torque Pro (they also have a free version). For around 5 bucks, you can do quite a few things to get a better understanding of how your Bolt EV is doing, no matter the conditions.
Did I miss any accessories or mods?
I went into this article as a Chevy Bolt EV owner myself. After digging for what seemed to be hours, the things I mentioned above are the most common add-on’s you can purchase. I personally may not buy all the things, but the screen protector, rain-guards, weatherproof floor mats, and the OBD2 bluetooth adapter are in my Amazon shopping cart as we speak.
Be sure to stay tuned as I’ll be doing reviews of each and letting you know my thoughts.
Thanks for sticking around and I’ll see you in the next one!
